The following is a list of organizations that allow day-trips and/or have fostering (short-term, long-term) programs. If we are missing one, please let us know. (Updated March 2026)

Shelters are usually the first stop for stray or surrendered animals. Lots of different volunteer jobs are available from cuddling with cats, walking dogs, cleaning toys, doing laundry, event staffing and more.  The following are those that need fosters and allow day-trips.

Rescue organizations rely on fosters to care for animals in their homes while looking for their forever homes. Many do not have physical locations. All those listed below will pay for the animal’s care (food, medical) while staying with their foster. The following rescues have foster programs.
